AUDITION INFORMATION

Anticipated Cast:  6 men and 6 women.   Performers should be at least 18 years old at the time of auditions.

Come From Away is a critically acclaimed musical with a culturally relevant script and a deeply moving score by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. The production has enjoyed worldwide success, earning 37 major award nominations and 13 wins, including Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards and Outstanding Musical at the 2017 Drama Desk Awards. Its enduring popularity stems from its uplifting message and its powerful reminder of humanity's ability to come together in times of crisis.

Based on a true story, Come From Away recounts the extraordinary events that unfolded in Gander, Newfoundland, on September 11, 2001. What began as an ordinary day in a small, isolated town became an international act of hospitality when 38 planes carrying nearly 7,000 passengers from around the world were unexpectedly diverted to Gander's airstrip. Faced with an unprecedented situation, the people of Gander opened their homes, hearts, and community to thousands of stranded travelers. Through music, generosity, and compassion, cultural differences and language barriers gave way to a shared understanding that we are all part of a global family.

More than twenty years after the events that inspired it, Come From Away remains an important and timely story. This production will focus on the themes of humanity, service, compassion, and community that lie at the heart of the musical. Directors will seek performers who can embrace these values and work collaboratively as part of a strong ensemble.

The show requires actors to portray multiple characters, often transitioning quickly through changes in costume pieces, props, physicality, or dialect. Performers should be strong singers, capable of both solo work and complex ensemble harmonies. While choreography is limited, actors will be expected to demonstrate precise, synchronized movement and basic dance skills.

This production will also feature the possibility of a live onstage band. Musicians who play acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, violin, keyboard, percussion, or instruments within the flute family are encouraged to contact the directors for more information.

Additional details regarding auditions, the live band, and a pre-audition workshop will be announced at a later date.
